The firm's environmental practice includes representing high technology and other manufacturing companies regarding soil and groundwater remediation programs before state agencies including the Department of Toxic Substances Control and Regional Water Quality Control Boards; representing real estate developers in complying with the myriad of environmental regulations affecting land use and development; representing companies in obtaining reimbursement from state or federal funds for removal of underground tanks or performance of similar clean up work; and counseling companies regarding compliance with OSHA and Cal OSHA's Hazard Communication Standard, including requirements relating to hazard assessment, product labeling, Material Safety Data Sheets, hazard communication planning and employee training.

Representative Engagements

Represented a Santa Rosa high tech company in a soil and groundwater contamination matter before the Regional Water Quality Control Board including insurance coverage litigation to obtain coverage for costs of investigation and remediation.


Represented a Silicon Valley high tech company in a soil and groundwater contamination matter before the Regional Water Quality Control Board including insurance coverage litigation to obtain coverage for costs of investigation and indemnification from a neighboring high tech company.

Represented a San Leandro aerospace manufacturing company in a soil and groundwater contamination matter before the Department of Toxic Substances Control including insurance coverage litigation to obtain coverage for costs of investigation and defense of litigation from a neighboring landowner.

Represented a Sonoma County high tech company in an investigation by the Department of Toxic Substances Control regarding compliance with Cal OSHA regulations.

Represented a Santa Rosa high tech company in a toxic tort case involving contaminated drinking water wells and were successful in getting the case dismissed after a two month jury trial and obtained a substantial award of attorneys' fees and costs against plaintiffs' attorneys.

Represented a developer of a major resort project in Squaw Valley against the Army Corps of Engineers and environmental groups challenging the developer's EIS. See Sylvester v. U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, 882 F.2d 407 (9th Circuit 1989); 884 F.2d 394 (9th Circuit 1989)
